The Roommate Rules (part 1)

So i'll probably add onto this later, but right now i'm seriously pissed off.

Rules:

  1. 1. DO NOT come in my room without my permission. Even if you know I’m inside you have no right to open my door. Or wake me up when I’m asleep, or demand things of me when you know I’m in bed.
  2. 2. Bills must be posted a week in advance or I will not pay them. I am not responsible for your stupidity.
  3. 3. No cats in my room. Your cats are your responsibility. If they make a mess, you clean it up. If someone is yelling at your cat, take care of it. They are YOUR pets, not mine.
  4. 4. If you’re working on a show with me in any capacity, you must e-mail me or discuss show matters on campus, NOT at home. Text messages don’t leave a paper-trail, dumbass. So learn to use your iphone in its proper capacity.
  5. 5. Stop eating and opening my food without permission. You’re not clever; I know you’re stealing it.
  6. 6. I pay more rent than you. Therefore I can have who I want over, when I want. You are not allowed to judge my company or tell me who is allowed to come over when.
  7. 7. You have no right to deny me parking rights just because I don’t have a car.
  8. 8. You’re a hoarder. Just because you’re mentally ill doesn’t mean you get more shelf/cabinet space than I do.
  9. 9. Stop copying everything I do/like/own/aspire to. It’s creepy and I’m cuter than you are. Get your own life.
  10. 10. Just because you earn a paycheck doesn’t mean you work harder than me. Once you’re in charge of 80 people (faculty, grads, undergrads) on a 24/7 job then come talk. Working 8 hours a weekend making over little girls is NOT equivalent to what I do, bitch.

Ah Dorm Life: but not in the dorms...

i hate pulling all nighters. I only pulled two last year, but between working on West Side Story, having drama 40 which makes me want to shoot myself (a paper due every class 2x a week, and 2x quizzes a week), an 8am class, no car and no time to do anything...damn. freshman year was hella easy compared to this.
so i figured the whole "ah dorm life" series thing, is basically just college, so even though i'm in an apartment now it's still sort of dorm life...just not so cramped and noisy.

I'm actually sitting in that bastard drama 40 class right now, but i figure i need to blog or i'll fall asleep. and at least it looks like i'm taking notes and not playing games or anything.

it's going to be random here for a bit. I'm basically just getting out what i need to get out so that i don't fall asleep.

it's 1 month to me being 19, and 1 month till west side closes and i get my life back before i start ASM-ing Book of Tink.
my sense of self is completely warped and i feel like i'm not myself when i look in the mirror because i've had so little sleep.
I want a pair of black skinny jeans for crew because they'll cover my ankles and i won't have to worry about wearing black socks.
i'm kind of glad i don't have a tv in my room right now, but eventually i need to get one...and figure out a way to get it because i still don't have a car/license.
i should have learned this last year, but pulling an all nighter and drinking too much coffee just makes things worse. at least there was no mint oreos this time.
speaking of coffee, thank god i have a coffee maker now and i don't have to travel all the way to starbucks at 2 in the morning. thanks mostly because it's a one-time cost, and starbucks is like a half mile from my apartment even though it's on campus.
I'm tagging this as insomnia because technically i haven't slept since 10am yesterday, so it's been about 24 hours.
I put makeup on this morning because i thought it would make me less tired looking, but i think by now i've ended up rubbing it all off.
kimya dawson freaked me out last night (this morning?) because i forgot i left my stereo on really quietly and i was basically home alone and i walked into my room and heard a voice, then i was like oh. it's my stereo, hello kimya dawson.
NEVER let me do an all nighter again.
SCREW THIS CLASS.
seriously!
30 minutes left. let me go now so i can sleep and be happy again and my head won't explode.

Ah Dorm Life...part 6

So I'm realizing that even though there's only a week left in the dorms you don't quite get the feeling that it's over until things come full circle.

All those posts I wrote at the beginning about light sleepers, whiny ANTM phone calls, they still apply.  I mean, don't get me wrong, i love college.  I like the freedom and all that shit, but at this point i really just want to go home.  I want to be able to do what i want and not have to worry about a desk lamp being too bright, or having to get dressed in the dark or hearing that goddamned intake of air and movement of a pillow covering a face if i flip a page in a book.  I'm sorry, but this is ridiculous.
yes.  people say things.  people get stressed and say things they don't mean, and they realize it and are sorry, but it's a two way street, genius.
yell at me, talk shit and send text messages like you're a playground bully wanting to steal milk money, but if the goal is to make me cry, to give me a "reality check", why don't you look in the mirror?
Anytime a conversation ends with the phrase "i hope this is a reality check for you" They don't really mean it.  what they're really saying is "i want to look badass, so i'm going to try and make you think.  i'm the bigger person, fuck you."

and this whole free speech thing? yeah, it doesn't really exist.  it's getting to the point these days where you have to even cross examine the thoughts in your head because there's so much shit to 'avoid'.  you can't rant without it crossing the line to "talking shit".  people get angry, they get frustrated and they have the right to express that.  people have the right to want to chill out after a hard day and when that's taken away they have a right to get upset about it.

dorms are...ugh.  three people who are polar opposites are NOT meant to share a 50 foot room and get along without wanting to kill each other.
as i said before it's come full circle.

happy end of freshman year, leah.

ugh.

p.s.  If you're really that upset about people talking shit, go back to high school.  that excuse and that reason to be angry is childish, and so is the silent treatment.  people get mad, they say things, end of story.  get over it.

Ah Dorm Life...part 5

In Aldea we have just entered into this wonderful little game called assasins.

I have managed to fly under the radar most days, but i have suffered a near death experience.

it is driving me insane.

if i remain alive until monday, i will post again then.

Ah, Dorm Life...Part 4

It's Amazing. it's 11:00 and there are no crazy drunk people running up and down the halls screaming.

Then again it is only the second week of the quarter.
I have already had to adjust to many things.

1) all morning classes- Now, morning classes may not sound that bad, but it is. I have alternating 9am and 8am classes as opposed to last quarter where 2 days a week my classes didn't start till 3 and i was out all night. I'm still a semi-night owl, but I'm getting better about actually going to bed.

2) bio- 'nuff said.

3) spending more money on textbooks, and hocking old ones for cold medicine and rolling stone magazine. (see Ah, Dorm Life...The Broke Edition)

4) lots and lots of memorization in drama.

Overall, the amount of reading this quarter is ridiculous, but I have to admit, either people here have wised up to that fact, or i'm just too tired to notice people screaming anymore.

Ah, Dorm Life: The Broke Edition

So it's a new quarter here at UCI, and all of us broke college students have to buy books.  So I sold the only books I had.

From the $45 I had spent on books, all I got when I sold them back was $5.50.
I've been sick since the last day of break, and being broke on top of that I decided when I went to buy some day/nyquil I'd buy the store brand instead.
So I did.  And it cost as much as I got back from selling my books.

Awful.

I sold my books for cold medicine.

I despise the money-sucking venture that is the college system

Ah, Dorm Life...- Part 2

Now that I'm not in rehearsals 24/7 anymore I actually have a life.  Since monday I've:

*Attempted to see a screening of Juno, but it was full so we ended up wandering The Block in West Orange and going to Downtown Disney at 10:00 waiting for fireworks that couldn't happen because it was too overcast.
* Done the swim to April March's "Chick Habit" with my roommates several times, and watched in amazement as my sober roommate danced down the hall sing/screaming "Too Drunk To Fuck" by Nouvelle Vague.
*Walked to Blockbuster which is like more than a mile away to rent movies that I probably won't watch. (Vacancy, Ned Kelly, and I bought Scoop)
*Planned a trip to Disneyland where I will ride the Haunted Mansion and keep an eye out for bone fragments and other forms of human remains (see the last post)
Things I've noticed, that are big things in college (or at least in Aldea, our hall):
  1. Taco Tuesdays- Even if you've eaten dinner, EVERYONE drives or walks the mile to Del taco for taco tuesday where we can get 3 tacos for $1.  I've also found out they do this at basically any Mexican place down here, even Rubios.
  2. Soulja Boy- They played it a lot when we first got here, but in the past week or two I haven't heard it.  Everyone knew the dance, and in one of the drama 30A classes they learned the dance as a warm-up.
  3. Silence is Impossible- Unless you're in a lecture or an 8am drama class, no one will shut up.  The noise in the dorms starts up around 10, gets it's loudest around 1 and pretty much doesn't disappear until after 4am
  4. Dinner- Don't go to the commons at 6:00.  You'll have to wait in line for hella long.  It's not really worth it.
  5. Sleep- will never be regular again.  Even if you wake up at 6am, go to an 8am class and don't nap, I still can't get to bed until after 2am.  midnight is considered EARLY.
  6. Procrastination is Inevitable- 'Nuff said.
  7. Double- Double- If you're going to eat one, you better have ketchup.  If you don't know what I'm talking about, you're obviously not from the third floor. haha.
That's all I can think of right now.

Ah, Dorm Life...

so strange. just like college.
one good thing happens, and then something takes you back a step.
examples:
1) tonight i got off of rehearsals at an extremely early and surprising 9:45, so i figure i have more time to go home and study stanislavski. also good, around 11:30 i find out that the test has been turned into a take home quiz so i don't have to study right away.
here's the BAD
2) i'm still sick so my throat is itching like crazy, and just when i think i'm almost asleep my phone rings it's ty and he needs a place to stay.  which is ok, but now i can't get back to sleep and everyone thinks that again. whatever.  we both know what's going on.

and i'm still freaked out that i'm not gonna wake up for tomorrow and i need to keep my A-!
:(

>>>from my last all nighter, and i mean COMPLETELY all night.  damn, i'm never doing that again.

goodnight, i shall try to sleep.  although i know it won't work.
